Listening to Dr. Debbie Reese speak was very changing and opened up a lot of new perspectives. To listen to it for me was specifically changing due to me being a “white” male. She started off by stating that “Tv Indians” are not what indigenous people are like at all. That they’re “dancing” is dancing but rather prayer. Their culture was completely misunderstood and now it has become almost colloquially known incorrectly. Calling them Native Americans is not correct, because they lived here before there even was an America. The schooling system shows books and movies which are misinformed teaching children the wrong image of indigenous people. This is described as whiteness. The selfish perspective in which they view everything based on what they have learned or witnessed. Not giving a thought about what the indigenous think. This talk was very moving and it definitely gave me some takeaways to think about in the future.

This video was extremely interesting as it demonstrates that accessible technology is always around us. It was around hundreds of years ago and will be around in the future. One of the key points I found were that technology is becoming increasingly accessible. My favorite example of this is viewed through a double amputee sprinter, who is attempting to qualify for the Olympics (not the Paralympics) while sprinting on two carbon fiber legs designed at MIT. I also found it interesting to see all the newly developed ways involving accessible design and mobility. This involved doors that open like a light switch, ramps that go down curbs, and ways for people in wheel chairs to drink from water fountains. I also loved hearing about Kevin Connolly who was born with just the upper half of his body, but chooses to go around on a motorized skateboard instead of a wheelchair. He is a professional photographer and has found great success because people are fascinated my the perspective of his photos. All in all, it really is mind blowing how much the topics discussed vary in terms of everything and it will be interesting to see where this goes in the future.

This article gives the possibility of the Air Force and NASA collaborating a realistic thought. This could be the next step for NASA becoming involved with the military as well as the Air Force becoming more involved with space. Although this article was primarily talking about medicine, it may be the start of something much more than that.

In a previous article I mentioned that Trump very recently signed the directive to start the process of creating a space force. Space Force meaning a branch in the military who deals with all objectives located outside of Earth’s atmosphere. What Americans fail to realize is that America is late to the party. Russia and China have both already started crafting technologies that can disable satellites and leave countries technologically destroyed. Satellites are how the military tracks targets with missiles, precisely drop bombs, gather intelligence, and communicate. Without catching up to speed in the space world, America would be on the forefront of danger. Because of this certain government officials are prepared to drop billions of dollars in the hopes of catching America’s military up and putting them back on the center of the map.

This article was written by a critic who was not in favor of the fact that the government funded NASA. Although space explorations may seem important to some individuals, she also made it clear that the billions of dollars that the government gives NASA could be better spent on helping the next generation pay for college or getting Americans affordable health care. The author did here best to persuade the audience that the government was spending their money poorly and the American people weren’t getting a say in where their money was going. Although the second part is true, the author most likely doesn’t really know whether people would prefer their money going towards NASA or not. Surely some individuals find that NASA is a worthy cause of their money and clearly she exaggerates certain details to make the audience more alert about the situation.

Recently, many military leaders and now government officials are agreeing that the next step in the U.S military will be creating a new branch to the current system. As we already have the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard to fight on the fronts of ground, sea, and air, but who shall fight in space? That is correct, the government is looking to pass a directive from President Trump to extend the a new branch that will start under the Air Force and hopefully become its own organization. This yields a lot of unanswered questions like when, how much, and will it pass congress. Overall, it is good to know that the government is looking into protecting us now and in the future when space my be a more prominent role in war.

Summary: This article involves the journey of marine biologist and scientist going on an expenditure searching for new life found directly off the Curacao coast. Hidden within the deep reefs, there laid a undiscovered and undocumented species of seabass. The scientist reviewed 650 base pairs of mitochondrial genome sequences before concluding that this is the first time the species had been documented. It is much smaller than the sea bass most people have in mind, and swims with a glittering translucent white with red stripes. With marine scientist suggesting there are still thousands of species out there, this is just a solid start to their future research. While the scientist believed to find a new species, they were unsure for a very long time due to them only finding the larvae at first. As Carol C. Baldwin wrote, “ a historically difficult task at the species level because larvae often bear little morphological resemblance to adults.” This is why the scientist spent so much time bar coding DNA.

The possibility of other life in space has always interested me and it appears it has interest some students and scientist at Arizona State University as well. It is said that currently NASA and other government funded space agencies try to observe far off star and see if any ultraviolet light comes back through very powerful telescopes indicating planets. From there more observation will be carried out through these telescopes in hopes of discovering an atmosphere that resembles anything similar to earth’s. There have been planets discovered, but it won’t be until the far future to see if possible life forms live there.
